SUMMARY:Making a Difference Together: A Special Screening
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, Oct. 22\, community members will gather in Lewisv
 ille for a screening of Preventable \, a film that centers the experiences
  of survivors and explores how communities can help prevent intimate partn
 er gun violence. \n  \nThe screening will be followed by a community conve
 rsation featuring survivors from the film\, including Denton native Amanda
  Simpson. In 2018\, Simpson survived a shooting by her ex-husband that kil
 led their three young children and her boyfriend before turning the gun on
  himself. In the aftermath\, Simpson publicly shared that she had warned t
 he court about her ex-husband’s mental instability and felt her concerns h
 ad gone unheard. Her story illustrates the devastating consequences of int
 imate partner violence and the importance of taking warning signs seriousl
 y. \n  \nSimpson will join experts from the Battered Women’s Justice Proje
 ct (BWJP) for a discussion about firearm access\, missed opportunities for
  intervention and how advocates\, neighbors and local leaders can help pre
 vent violence before it becomes deadly. \n  \nThe screening is part of a t
 wo-day event bringing together domestic violence experts\, law enforcement
  professionals and county leaders for further discussion and collaboration
  on preventing intimate partner violence and firearm-related deaths. \n  \
 n The event is presented by the Battered Women’s Justice Project\, the UNT
  College of Health & Public Service Department of Social Work’s Title IV-E
  Child Welfare Program and the City of Lewisville\, in partnership with De
 nton County Friends of the Family (DCFOF). Seating is limited. Registratio
