TCA Boys Golf Team Captures Second Consecutive Golf Title

Trinity Christian Academy’s (TCA) boys golf team battled back from a two-stroke deficit after the first round of competition to claim the 2014 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) 5A State Championship last week in Temple, Texas.

Fueled by a one-under-par round by senior Will Zalatoris on the second day, the Trojans finished with a total of 620 for the 36-hole tournament to top St. Thomas of Houston by eight strokes. This year’s win marks the second consecutive state title for the boys and the sixth state championship the school’s golf team has won in the past seven years.

Will Zalatoris finished second (74-71) in the individual championship play. Zalatoris ends his golf career at TCA with two individual state championships and a second-place finish in this year’s tournament. Will was also named a TAPPS All-State competitor all four years of his high school career.

Junior Garrett Glanton finished sixth in the tournament (75-80) and also earned All-State honors for the Trojans. Freshman Justin Thompson, who finished 11th, and seniors Scott Bennett and Nicolas Wren, who tied for 22nd place, also contributed to the team’s overall tournament success.
