Altrusa member Kristi Francis of Francis and Associates, LLC; Kimberly Grigsby, Broadway musical director; and Altrusa President Lee Dorsett.
Seven-time Broadway musical director and SMU graduate Kimberly Grigsby was the speaker for Altrusa International of Downtown Dallas on March 18 at the City Club, the 69th floor of the Bank of America Building downtown.

Grigsy talked about her life as a scholarship student at SMU and her rise to Broadway where she now works on a regular basis. She was conductor of "Spring Awakening" and director of "Spider Man – Turn off the Dark,” both on Broadway. Her current play is “The Fortress of Solitude," the huge new musical playing now at Dallas Theater Center and co-produced with New York's Public Theater.

Altrusa International of Downtown Dallas is a club made up of professional business women who volunteer in the community and raise money to support local non-profits that help women and children in crisis. The club members include attorneys, CPAs, company owners and entrepreneurs. Many have a background in the dramatic arts and work on “Bar None,” a comedic review that pokes fun at lawyers and those in the legal profession. Profits from the show go to minority scholarships for students attending SMU’s Law school. The show opens in June.

The club’s fundraiser, Dessert First, will be held October 23 at 3015 Trinity Grove on Gulden Lane. Proceeds from the fund raiser will go to Kids U, an afterschool program assisting at-risk youths in discovering pathways to success by concentrating on their social, educational, personal and environmental issues, to produce future productive citizens of Dallas County.

Altrusa program meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month and are open to the public. For more information see the site.  For information on the Dallas Theater Center see its site
