Dallas Can Academies, a nonprofit high school dropout recovery program, will present their Lifetime Achievement Award to philanthropist, wife and mother Melody Rogers at their 23rd annual Motherhood: The Lifetime Achievement Award Luncheon on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 11:15 a.m. at the InterContinental Dallas. The luncheon is open to the public and annually recognizes women who exemplify family and community leadership while benefiting the students of the five Dallas Can Academy campuses.

Melody Rogers will be honored for her commitment to education, family and community.  Rogers has built a life of being devoted to helping others. She is a dedicated volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, the North Texas Food Bank and The Warren Center. She has also donated many hours of volunteer service to countless other charities, including serving as Honorary Chair for the 2014 Fashion Stars for a Cause benefitting the Suicide and Crisis Center, as well as hosting Christmas in Fair Park.

Rogers and her husband, Rick, have four children. As a mother, she understands the importance of giving hope to all children. She instills that value in her own children who are often along side her, lending a helping hand at philanthropic events in the Dallas area.

Gloria Campos, a former Motherhood Luncheon honoree and emcee of the luncheon since 1993, will host the luncheon and serve as the Mistress of Ceremony. Guests will hear from Dallas Can students who will speak about their personal experiences, future educational endeavors and career goals.  Each student-speaker has overcome difficult obstacles to remain in school and will share what the opportunity to complete their high school education has meant for them.

The Motherhood: The Lifetime Achievement Award Luncheon began in 1993 as a tribute to active community volunteers who are also mothers. Other past honorees include Mary Kay Ash, Yvonne Crum, Delia Jasso, Patricia Meadows, Liz Minyard, Regina Montoya, Ruth Ryan, Honorable Florence Shapiro, Cindy Brinker Simmons, Marianne Staubach, Annette Strauss, Clarice Tinsley and Nina Vaca. The proceeds from the annual fundraiser support students of Dallas Can Academies while they earn their high school diplomas. The schools believe helping these students is critical to breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty and illiteracy.

The luncheon’s honorary chair is Gina Betts and the host committee chair is Yvonne Crum.  The host committee includes Nicole Barrett, Sonia Black, Paula Brown, Gloria Campos, Giles Davidson, Cindy Davis, Terri Duncan, Dick Evans, Tanya Foster, Nancy Gopez, Allison Griffin, Christine Handy, Cearan Henley, Kris Johnson, Richard Joyner, Debbie Kenvin, Sandra Lauro, Rebecca Lopez, Dave Monaco, Tara Null, Shelley Nunley, Nancy Rogers, Dallas Snadon, D’Andra Simmons, Dawn Weeks-Spalding, Starlit Stacey and Carolyn Tillery.
