SPCA of Texas Receives $100,000 Grant from PetSmart Charities® to Fund Other Veterinary Services for Southern Dallas Initiative
(DALLAS, TX); April 14, 2021 – The SPCA of Texas has received a $100,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to fund veterinary services to dogs eligible through the Southern Dallas Spay Neuter Surge, a multi-organizational effort to improve the lives of pets and people in 23 ZIP codes located in Southern Dallas.
The grant funds will allow the SPCA of Texas to provide other care beyond the spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines and microchipping already included in the Southern Dallas Spay Neuter Surge Phase II program. The goal is to provide these other services, over the next 24 months, having begun at the start of this year, to approximately 375-400 owned pets in the target area.
“We are proud to support the SPCA of Texas in making quality veterinary care accessible to communities through Southern Dallas,” said Aimee Gilbreath, President, PetSmart Charities. “Providing expanded services along with basic care will allow pets to receive critical routine care while also preventing potentially serious illness and issues further down the road, that often result in costly care fees for pet parents.”
Examples of this other care include but are not limited to: additional needed vaccines, mite treatment, orthopedic surgery, treatment for lacerations or abrasions, other general continued care such as re-checks for any surgery or illness.

Using grant funds, the SPCA of Texas was able to assist the owner of Roxy, an 8-year-old Boxer. Roxy's owner reached out to the SPCA of Texas for medical assistance, and was able to bring her to the SPCA of Texas' Myron K. Martin Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic in Dallas to be seen by a veterinarian. Through the grant, the SPCA of Texas was able to provide Roxy with annual vaccinations, a heartworm test, a fecal flotation and subsequent treatment of intestinal parasites, all at no cost to her owner. The routine care provided to Roxy will prevent the likelihood of her contracting a more serious medical condition. To see a photo of Roxy, please visit the following link:

The SPCA of Texas is grateful to PetSmart Charities and The Dallas Foundation for providing the necessary funds to allow the organization to assist pet owners with the much-needed veterinary care for their pets at low or no cost, which will help keeps those pets healthy and happy in their homes as well as significantly contribute to the health of the community at large. |
