Sci-Tech Discovery Center will open its new Makerspace, presented by Raytheon and Siemens Digital Industries Software, with a fun family event on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019. The Makerspace Grand Opening will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Frisco-based museum. There’ll be special activities and workshops, all included in the regular admission price.
The grand opening event will feature activities in the new Makerspace and the smaller Makerstudio from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (with an hour break at noon). In the Makerstudio, educators will lead 3-D printing demonstrations and hands-on Ozobots and Makey Makey activities. In the new Makerspace, guests will create take-home keychains using the tools and techniques featured in workshops such as Woodworking and Pyrography.
The Makerspace is a workshop in which visitors can make everything from woodworking projects to electronics. Its long list of tools includes a full-spectrum 20” laser cutter and edger, hand tools sponsored by Hilti, drill press, soldering irons, a 3-D printer and CNC machine. Access to software applications and training include Siemens’ Solid Edge® software, BobCAD, gMax 3-D Printing Software and Windows Movie Maker. This space will host workshops for both kids and adults throughout the year. Register online.
In addition to the Makerspace and Makerstudio activities, the museum’s fun exhibits including gravity experiments, drone simulators and giant bubble makers will be open to guests all day.
