Dave Delph, Mike Singletary, Kirk McJunkin.

Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) has hired Mike Singletary, NFL Hall of Fame player and former NFL coach, as the new head of the TCA football program. This announcement was made yesterday by TCA Headmaster, Dave Delph and TCA Executive Athletic Director, Kirk McJunkin.

"It's an honor for me to join the TCA family. I welcome the opportunity to get to know the young men who are a part of the football team, as well as the faculty, staff and parents. I have a soft spot in my heart for young men, and it's my desire to help them develop into all that God created them to be through football and beyond," said Singletary.

Singletary will serve as the varsity football head coach and Steve Mercer, current defensive coordinator and 14-year veteran of TCA’s coaching staff, will be the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.

“It is exciting to have Mike Singletary at TCA. He is highly respected not only for his accomplishments in football, but for the kind of man he is. I am looking forward to working with and learning from him,” said Mercer.

Singletary played football for Baylor University and in the NFL for the Chicago Bears. He went on to coach for the Baltimore Ravens, the San Francisco 49ers, the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Rams. His impressive resume includes Super Bowl XX Champion, 10x Pro Bowl Nominee, 8x First Team All-Pro, 1990 NFL Man of the Year, 2x NFL Defensive Player of the Year, 3x NFC Player of the Year, 2x Southwest Conference Player of the Year, 2x Consensus All-American and 2x Davey O’Brien Memorial Trophy Winner.

“Singletary is a multi-talented and energetic individual with other opportunities, including coaching a potential ‘spring league’ at the professional level that is currently forming, and we recognize that the length of his tenure as TCA’s head football coach is unknown,” said McJunkin. “As such, we are excited to have Coach Mercer serve in his new role to ensure continuity in our program as the future unfolds.”

The vision of the TCA football program is to use athletics in an intentional and inspiring way to develop Godly character and leadership skills that will serve these athletes for a lifetime.

Students learn about how math is used in real word careers

Recently, sixth grade students at Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) in Addison, learned how math is used in the real world during “Math to the Future Day.” Throughout the day the students gathered on Main Street (main hallway) and “traveled” through the following rotations held in different classrooms:

  • Bank – Students solved math puzzles to unlock a bank vault and obtain a code which prevents a computer virus from spreading worldwide. (Dallas Panic Room helped to create the escape room on-site in the classroom)
  • Emergency Room – Students put on scrubs and performed the order of operations on a blow-up dummy.
  • Market – Students “shopped” for grocery items and calculated subtotal, tax and total.
  • Movie Theater – Students watched a classic movie, while discovering mathematics in music, sports, architecture, art and nature. “Mathematics is the alphabet upon which God has written the universe,” – Galileo.
  • Restaurant – Students placed an order for their table and calculated tax, total, tip and split check.
  • Sports Arena – Students acted as general managers and assembled the best possible salary-capped roster for their pro-basketball teams based on actual player statistics.
  • Town Hall – Students presented an essay about how math can be used in their future career.

Students came to school wearing clothes that best fit the future occupation of their choice but had no idea what they would be doing in class. Each classroom was decorated to look like the different “real world” setting and teachers wore costumes to match the classroom.

Two freshmen students from Trinity Christian Academy (TCA), Leah Kegerreis and Hannah Alpert, were recently selected to join the 2018-2019 Nasher Sculpture Center Student Advisory Board. The board, which consists of 24 Dallas-area high school students, will meet throughout the year and will be given private tours of exhibitions, participate in guest artist talks, produce a publication and meet professionals in creative fields. Both Kegerreis and Alpert were nominated by Jay Henderson, a visual arts teacher at TCA.

In addition to their recommendations from Henderson, both Kegerreis and Alpert were chosen based on their applications, sketches and essays submitted in the previous year.  The Student Advisory Board is open to students enrolled in grades 9 through 12 who are active participants in art or art history classes. All board members also have independent interests in the arts and a desire to share their insights with others.

The Nasher Sculpture Center Student Advisory Board was formed by the Nasher education team in 2011 to develop ideas for student programs and take part in unique behind-the-scenes learning opportunities at the museum. As members of this board, selected students will be able to work with other student-artists from around the area at each board meeting, attend special exhibits in the museum, meet with many different artists, be involved with the teacher advisory board and assist in planning a student-centered festival that will have activities for Dallas-area children.

This year, students at Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) gathered 10,000 boxes for Operation Christmas Child.  The boxes were filled with toys, books, notes and toiletries that the lower school students collected throughout the month of November. The boxes will soon be sent to children in war-torn countries through an ongoing partnership with Samaritan's Purse. As an honored tradition at TCA, this is the 17th year they participated in Operation Christmas Child.

Students armed with a thirst for knowledge expand their horizons formed by the alphabet

Recently, kindergarteners at Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) in Addison, completed a six-week course filled with learning the intricacies and complexities of the alphabet in TCA’s ABC Boot Camp. Meant to make learning fun, the boot camp recruits were armed with crayons, glue sticks and a thirst for knowledge. In this program, students mastered the art of dotting I’s and crossing T’s, and rigorously completed ABC-themed coloring pages and arts and crafts projects. After completing their basic training, the students assembled their boot camp vests, each emblazoned proudly with their momentous achievements and a letter they had mastered. To commemorate their hard work and discipline, the kindergarteners celebrated at the ABC Boot Camp Parade.

Students and teachers raised more than $500,000 during annual giving day event

DALLAS – October 5, 2017 Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) in Addison, raised more than $500,000 during the ninth annual North Texas Giving Day, the largest community-wide giving event in the country, which helps build awareness and support for nonprofits in the North Texas region.

Every donor that participated helped TCA receive “bonus funds” for the organization, and the first $47,000 TCA received was matched dollar-for-dollar by alumni, donors and friends. TCA received 989 gifts, more than any other school on North Texas Giving Day. The school was awarded $5,000 for this achievement. Of the more than 2,700 organizations that participated in North Texas Giving Day, TCA was ranked eighth in number of gifts and ninth in total dollars received.

"We're always impressed by the support we receive from our community each year," said TCA Headmaster Dave Delph. “Donation amounts have increased each year since we began participating in North Texas Giving Day in 2013. Since then, we have raised a total of $1,980,269. On behalf of our faculty, staff and students, I want to say thank you to everyone who donated this year.”

North Texas Giving Day once again exceeded its prior record and raised $39 million in 18 hours due to the generosity of TCA's donors as well as other contributors who donated funds to various nonprofits. Donations poured in from people in all 50 states and 36 countries, and have positively impacted nonprofits in North Texas, including $370,000 in contributions granted to hurricane relief funds.
