Family-friendly Mix It Up, Texas event comes to new Thermomix Experience Center on Saturday, June 7

North Texas families should prepare their palates for a full day of fun, food and festivities. The new Thermomix® Experience Center, located at 3232 McKinney Ave. in Dallas, is hosting Mix It Up, Texas, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 7.

Throughout the day, top chefs will be leading free cooking demonstrations and samplings. Participating chefs include:

Chef Uno Immanivong Dallas-based Chef Uno was born in a refugee camp in Nong Khai, Thailand, run by the United Nations Organization (UNO), for which she was named. Following a nearly two-decade career in banking, Uno turned to her first love, nourishing people with food. She was discovered and mentored by Anthony Bourdain, who encouraged Uno to follow her dreams. She has opened several innovative restaurants and has become an active advocate for food education and accessibility. Chef Uno currently operates RedStix Asian Street Food, with locations in Dallas and Farmers Branch.
Chef Meiko Temple - Meiko is a food personality, digital creator and culinary marketing manager at Thermomix USA whose work lives at the intersection of innovation and tradition. She is the creator behind Meiko and the Dish, a food blog and lifestyle brand spotlighting soulful, comforting recipes with a modern twist. Her work has been featured on Food Network, Food52, Tasty, TheKitchn, and TheFeedFeed. She's also the founder of Eat the Culture, a collective that uplifts and empowers Black food creators through collaborative storytelling and community-building campaigns.
Chef Ashley T. Henderson Ashley is a classically trained chef and culinary entrepreneur based in Dallas. With more than 15 years of experience across top kitchens in Dallas, Los Angeles, and New Yorkincluding Nobu, The Ritz-Carlton, Hilton, and Omni HotelsAshley blends fine dining expertise with modern culinary innovation. Once a purist in the kitchen, Thermomix changed her perspective, showing her how technology could expand creativity, efficiency and flavor. She is also the founder of She Shefs Inc., a nonprofit mentoring young BIPOC women in food, hospitality and agriculture.

Kids of all ages are invited to participate in cookie decorating throughout the day. Participants can also win fun prizes as they learn simple recipes from Thermomix® and compete in a speed challenge centered around Thermomixs Cookidoo® platform, which features nearly 100,000 recipes and will create weekly meal plans, shopping lists and more, making it easier to eat well at home.

Young Women's Preparatory Network to be presented with Elevate Award by Western Governors University

According to research collected by the National Coalition of Girls Schools, graduates of all-girls schools perform better academically, have higher aspirations and are more likely than those attending coeducational schools to impact their communities and consider careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

Dallas-based Young Womens Preparatory Network (YWPN), a nonprofit founded in 2002 whose mission is to support single-gender, college-preparatory, public education, operates 11 schools in 10 Texas independent school districts. YWPNs model shows that all girls can excel when given the right opportunity. Now, the network is being lauded for its efforts.

On March 27, Western Governors Universitys (WGU) School of Business will present the Elevate Award to YWPN in recognition of its exceptional work across Texas in empowering young women with the leadership skills and academic preparation needed for lifelong success. WGU's Elevate Award is given to individuals and organizations that contribute to high-quality learning opportunities and support the educational success of others.

Led by Mitsu Frazier, senior vice president and executive dean, the WGU School of Business empowers students to learn at the speed of business and earn the skills needed to achieve their professional goals.

"Education is the surest path to opportunity, and it sets individuals on a path to independence and freedom," Frazier said. "It is an honor to celebrate YWPN's impact on young women and recognize its commitment to shaping future leaders."

This recognition is especially meaningful as the award is being presented at the Irma Lerma Rangel Young Womens Leadership School in Dallas, which was the first school opened by YWPN. The schools namesake, Irma Lerma Rangel, was a trailblazing attorney, educator, legislator and mentor to Dr. Linda Garza Battles, WGUs regional vice president, making this moment a deeply personal and inspiring tribute to the power of mentorship and education.

YWPNs dedication to equipping young women with the tools they need to excel academically and lead with confidence aligns with WGUs mission to expand access, without excluding anyone, Battles said.

YWPN CEO Lynn McBee will accept the award in a ceremony at 3 p.m. in the Rangel library. Prior to the ceremony, leaders from WGUs School of Business, who are currently touring the nation to learn how to better serve students, will visit with Rangel students and see the school.

This honor is very meaningful to us. Our schools have received many awards, but its rare for the network itself to receive such amazing recognition, said Lynn McBee, CEO of Young Womens Preparatory Network. The Elevate Award is made even more special with Dr. Battles connection to our Dallas schools namesake. We are very appreciative of WGN for this acknowledgment of our teams hard work.

Galleria Dallas hosts 'Petals & Puppies' this Valentine's Day

Weve all heard of puppy love, but when youre literally talking about four-legged friends, that feeling is even better. This Valentines Day, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Galleria Dallas will host Operation Kindness for a perfect one-day popup experience near the Valentines wall on Level 1 next to Apple.

On Feb. 14, Operation Kindness will have adoptable puppies and kittens on hand for adoption at the shopping center. Adoption fees are $205 for dogs and $155 for cats and include spay or neuter before adoption, age-appropriate core vaccinations, microchip and more. Jett, the adorable puppy shown at left, was adopted from Operation Kindness during its holiday pop-up at Galleria Dallas this year.

With each adoption, youll receive a beautiful bouquet from Operation Kindness. Additionally, those who would like to support the organization but cant adopt an animal at this time can purchase a nosegay for $20, with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit.

Both our shoppers and our team at Galleria Dallas love having these adoptable animals in the center, and were proud to help Operation Kindness find loving homes for so many pets, said Angie Freed, Galleria Dallas general manager.

III Forks Plans Panhandle to Table Dinners Aug. 20 & 22

The dinners, which celebrate the diversity of the local meat and produce raised in Texas, will be hosted by Curtis Osmond, president of III Forks, along with chefs Chris Vogeli (Frisco) and Erick Nixon (Austin). They will be joined by Dan Garrison of Garrison Brothers, Chris Brundrett of William Chris Vineyards and Texas Rep. Ken King, whose district includes parts of the Texas Panhandle.

Tragedy struck the Texas Panhandle in spring 2024 when wildfires ignited. The inferno consumed a staggering 1.5 million acres of land. In just a matter of days, more than 350 homes and ranches were reduced to ashes. The flames tragically claimed the lives of two residents and more than 15,000 cattle, dealing a severe blow to the local economy. The financial toll was staggering, exceeding $1 billion in losses. This included $123 million in agricultural damages and $35 million in residential property losses. In the aftermath of this disaster, Panhandle Proud was created to raise money and awareness for the affected communities.

David Whiteman Band at Rockwall

Thursday nights in Rockwall are extra special this summer as the city presents its annual series of Concerts by the Lake. Held at The Harbor between 7 and 9 p.m. each week from May through July, the concerts feature a wide assortment of musical artists. The final performer in the 2024 series is the David Whiteman Band, which will perform on July 25.

David Whiteman Band is one of the most versatile and entertaining party bands in America. Led by vocalist-guitarist David Whiteman, this 13-piece band cuts no corners entertaining, combining a mix of musicianship, vocals, sound and stage lighting. Covering genres including Top 40, pop, R&B, funk, hip-hop, rock, Latin and dance music, including current hits and classics dating back to the 1960s.

The free concerts take place on the Amphitheater Stage at The Harbor, 2059 Summer Lee Drive, on the shores of beautiful Lake Ray Hubbard. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, picnics and beverages. Restaurants at The Harbor provide a variety of food choices. Food can be brought in or delivered. Concerts take place unless there is rain or severe weather at showtime; however, the start of a show can be delayed if it appears rain will stop soon.

One of the best things about Concerts by the Lake is that you can experience the shows from land or from water: Scores of boats will fill the Rockwall Harbor enjoying the sounds of the summer concerts.

Free parking is available in the garage in the TrendHR building at the top of Summer Lee Drive. Note: There is no on-grass parking anywhere at The Harbor.

Limelight Performs at Vitruvian Nights Live

Vitruvian Nights Live, North Texas favorite FREE summer concert series, continues with a perfectly purple performance by Limelight, an Emerald City party band, on July 11. Vitruvian Nights Live, North Texas favorite FREE summer concert series, continues with a perfectly purple performance by The Prince Experience, a Prince tribute band, on June 27. The concert will be held in the beautiful amphitheater at Vitruvian Park in Addison, Texas, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. In addition to live music, guests can play outdoor games and purchase bites to eat and chilled beverages from local food trucks. These events are open to the entire family including pets!

Since 2002, Gabriel Sanchez has been portraying Prince in his critically acclaimed show, The Prince Experience. What started off as Gabriel portraying Prince in a local theater production of Purple Rain has expanded into a full-blown, loving tribute to Prince. Expect to hear all the hits from the man who turned his name into a symbol, including When Doves Cry, Lets Go Crazy, 1999 and more.

Concerts continue every other Thursday with performances by Limelight (July 11), Lover (July 25) and Le Freak (Aug. 8).

Lone Star Skynyrd, comprised of longtime Texas musicians, faithfully recreates the high-energy concert experience of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd. Lone Star Skynyrd won the 2022 Josie Award for Best Tribute Band in America.

Black Agave Hosts Tequila Dinner Featuring Spirits by Corrido

Black Agave has made quite a splash in the North Texas restaurant scene. The Mex-Tex outpost created by chef Omar Adame wows guests with its authentic yet modern interpretations of Mexican classics. The restaurant is showcasing its cocktail creations as well, with a series of tequila dinners. The second of these will feature Tequila Corrido spirits at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 25.

Tickets for the reservation-only event are $59.99 per person and include a four-course meal perfectly paired with cocktail creations. The menu includes:

Tequila Corrido was resurrected in 2018 by Brian Raab and Anthony Boyle, who continue the mission of bringing people together envisioned by its late founder, Brad Hoover. Corrido translates to ballad, and with master distiller Ana María Romero, the brand pays homage to the tequila-making traditions and stories behind its evolution. The spirit is barrel-aged in its Arandas distillery and is available in three flavors, Tequila Corrido Blanco, Tequila Corrido Reposado, and Tequila Corrido Añejo.

Dallas-based Soulful Soundz is a dynamic, high-energy party band with a diverse repertoire spanning hip-hop, blues, Top 40, Motown classics, country, jazz standards and both old and new school R&B.

Rockwall is the Free Live Music Capital of North Texas. Through the years, the city has hosted more than 200 different bands at Concerts by the Lake.

Nothing says summer like live music on a patio overlooking the water. Mercer Boardwalk, the beautiful new Farmers Branch entertainment destination, is celebrating its waterside location with a series of local DJs and performers throughout June and July.

The newly redesigned patio at Black Agave will be home to the weekly performances. Guests can enjoy food and beverages from either Black Agave, which features elevated Mex-Tex cuisine and craft cocktails, or from Barrel & Bones, one of North Texas most lauded barbecue destinations.

Thursday nights in Rockwall are extra special this summer as the city presents its annual series of Concerts by the Lake. Performing next in the series on June 13 is Journey tribute band Escape.

The Dallas-based Escape has performed its musical tribute to the arena rock supergroup Journey all over the DFW metroplex and beyond. The band consists of veteran musicians who bring a dynamic, high-energy presentation to every show. Get out of your seats, sing along and dance to the ballads and rockers of Journey!

The free concerts take place on the Amphitheater Stage at The Harbor, 2059 Summer Lee Drive, on the shores of beautiful Lake Ray Hubbard. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, picnics and beverages. Restaurants at The Harbor provide a variety of food choices. Concerts take place unless there is rain or severe weather at showtime; however, the start of a show can be delayed if it appears rain will stop soon.
